60th Anniversary Committee
Monday, October 17th, 2011 – Room 33
In attendance: Jim Smith, Chair, Ron Storozuk, Debb Brethauer, Susan Tighe, Vivien Laurie, Gordon Fritzsche and Maureen Silk as Recording Secretary.
Meeting called to order at 7:05 p.m.
Gordon went through a mock registration process using the Survey Monkey website, which is free of charge. Some minor changes were suggested. “Year graduated” will be changed to read “last year of attendance” in order to include alumni who never graduated or did their final year at another school, and a space will be added to include staff members. As well, space will be included for alumni to donate to the Scholarship Fund or to expenses associated to the anniversary weekend.
It was decided that Gordon will just use a PDF format that can be linked to the webpage. He will include a space where alumni can check off which musical performance they will be attending, and if they will be participating in the volleyball games.
Maureen will amend the Agenda for the anniversary weekend to indicate that the Open House on the Saturday is free of charge.
Discussion held regarding purchase of lanyards to hold the tickets. Vivien will be meeting with Louise Bowles in the next few days and will get a definite price. Once alumni complete the registration process, their tickets and lanyard will be mailed out to them. A suggestion was made to add an additional $1.00 to the cost of the ticket to cover the postage and this was agreed to.
Vivien advised she is trying to get the pancake batter and syrup for the pancake breakfast donated. Susan will contact some hot dog vendors and Vivien will look for ice cream and cotton candy vendors. Maureen will contact Cassie Bodnar to see if anything has been done with ordering the inflatable for the Children’s Fun Fair.
Jim circulated a sample spreadsheet of a “to do list” to monitor the tasks needed to be done and the timeline to have them completed. He and Maureen will meet before the next meeting to create one for our event.
Vivien advised clothing items with the new logo will soon be available and will be added to the website so they can be ordered on line. Cindy Feduniw will look after all the orders for both current students and alumni and the school will retain the profits.
Vivien advised the I.B. students will be creating a “memory walk” in Gym ‘B’ to encompass the six decades of the school’s history and will be dressed in period dress for the occasion. The Memorial Wall will be set up in a small room adjacent to the office.
Ron advised he is looking for ways to capture the interest of the alumni to get them on board for the anniversary weekend and suggested hosting an informal social evening at his home. Vivien feels more publicity is needed. She indicated the Class of 2001 recently held a 10 year reunion and visited the school. They weren’t aware of the upcoming 60th.
Meeting adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
NEXT MEETING WILL BE HELD ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 21ST, 2011 AT 7:00 P.M. IN ROOM #33
